2026 Field Actions & Community Event Schedule
The Association pour la Sauvegarde du Patrimoine de Louvilliers en Drouais conducts direct hands-on conservation work, educational heritage walks, and traditional lime mortar ateliers throughout the year. All activities are non-profit, free of charge to attend, and open to every resident, craft enthusiast, and community volunteer.
Our mission is to translate collective love for our village into concrete, measurable physical interventions that halt architectural decay and protect the historic landmarks of Louvilliers-en-Drouais. We reject passive spectatorship in favor of structured grassroots worksites where neighbors, master masons, students, and preservationists work side-by-side using authentic ecological materials. By hosting free public restoration workshops, detailed structural surveys, and guided historical walks through our village streets, we ensure that every conservation intervention adheres to professional archival standards while reinforcing civic solidarity, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and communal pride without any commercial fee or exclusive membership barrier.

Active Field Interventions Across Louvilliers-en-Drouais
Discover our three primary active conservation worksites currently under phased volunteer management.
1. Phase II Restoration of the Communal Washhouse (Lavoir)
Located just steps from Place des Acacias, the communal washhouse was constructed in the nineteenth century to serve local village households. Over recent winters, runoff water from surrounding slopes eroded the lower limestone footing stones supporting the primary oak uprights.
Our volunteer crews have completed Phase I, clearing hundreds of kilograms of silt and organic detritus from the water channels and installing protective temporary shoring beneath stressed purlins. Phase II, launched in early 2026, focuses on dismantling damaged flint masonry sections, cleaning each stone by hand, and rebuilding the wall using a breathable formulation of Saint-Astier natural hydraulic lime and coarse river sand. Certified carpenters oversee the re-pegging of oak tenon-and-mortise joints using seasoned heartwood oak trunnels.

2. Preservation of Parish Cemetery Flint Perimeter Walls
The stone perimeter walls surrounding the municipal cemetery and the church grounds represent an exceptional example of traditional Drouais flint coursing. Over decades, invasive roots from wild elderberry and ivy forced the upper stone courses apart, allowing rain to dissolve the original lime core.
Working under authorization from the Mairie de Louvilliers-en-Drouais, our brigade systematically removes invasive vegetation without chemical herbicides, extracts crumbling cement patches, and resets the coping stones using a weather-resistant lime-pozzolan mortar mix. This technique ensures maximum frost resistance while remaining completely vapor-permeable, protecting the wall for generations to come.
Support Wall Preservation3. Guided Educational Heritage Walks and Rural Itineraries
Education is the strongest safeguard against neglect. Our monthly guided walks transform the quiet streets of Louvilliers-en-Drouais into an open-air historical museum. Led by volunteer historians and longtime residents, each walk focuses on a distinct theme: the evolution of farm architecture from the 16th to 19th centuries, the history of local wells and underground water cisterns, or the symbolic iconography carved into village lintels.
These walks are designed for all ages, with accessible routes welcoming seniors, families with strollers, and visiting hikers. Each participant receives a free printed route map featuring historical photographs and archival citations.
